Then\, enjoy TWO speaker presentations and Q&A sessions over a buffet dinner starting a 6:00 pm. \nPresentation 1: Safety First – Certified!\nSpeakers: Mike Barwell\, NHLA Education Chair; Kathy Taylor\, NHTI Director of Workforce Development & Community Education \nNHLA and NHTI (Concord’s community college) are rolling out a unique Certificate Program in Worksite Safety for new crew members and team leaders this spring. \nThis six-week program\, starting in late March\, will cover basic workplace protocols. Using resources from local Green Industry leaders\, ergonomic practitioners\, UNH Cooperative Extension experts and Department of Safety Troop G officers\, we will offer a compact in-class and hands-on curriculum that surpasses most in-house or paid subscription services. \nAnd we’ll make it affordable\, too! \nYour crews will learn how to ensure a safe work culture including:\n— how to identify hazards and manage risks\n— set up a safe worksite and control traffic\n— handle materials safely and ergonomically\n— inspect\, start and stop hand-held and riding/walking equipment\n— learn how inspect and hook up trucks and trailers and observe mandated driving protocols\n— learn efficient production techniques \nWhy would owners/managers want to send their workers? If you’ve struggled to train new employees – or simply make it up as you go – this certificate can provide an incentive for recruiting your new employees and empowering your crew leaders. It’s also a great return on investment (ROI). \nThis gives your crew leaders expert authority for on-site training and operations and can help lower your Workers’ Compensation costs by reducing employee and equipment accidents. \nWe will explain more at the January 22 NHLA Dinner Meeting. If you want to cover your assets\, you don’t want to miss this first-time opportunity to get your workers rolling safely this spring. \nPresentation 2: Cross Insurance \nCross Insurance was established in 1954 in Bangor Maine\, remains family owned and operated in our 3rdgeneration\, and is the largest locally owned independent agency in New England. We are a full-service agency providing Risk Management and Insurance solutions for Commercial Property & Casualty\, Surety & Bonds\, Employee Benefits\, and Personal Lines insurance.  We provide many complimentary services and resources for our clients. Mason and dry-stone waller\, Andras Lazar\, leading the project\, which includes building a large retaining wall behind the building and rebuilding the stone foundation. \nCome see the work in progress\, learn what it has taken to get this far\, and hear what remains to be done. Much of the 100’ retaining wall is completed while the foundation work just getting going. When completed\, the double-sided wall\, approximately 5’ wide at the base and comprised of nearly 200 ton of stone donated by local residents\, will rise 3’ above the earth to form a parapet for the adjoining property and will be topped with 15 tons of granite donated by Alfred Dedham of Ryegate\, VT. Much of the fabricated material such as corners and through stones were created by breaking down large local boulders using feathers and wedges\, and hand tools. A portion of the foundation has been completed and material for new sill stones is on site awaiting shaping. \nThe foundation and retaining wall will serve this building well for centuries to come\, and will serve as an enduring statement of the power of community and the ability of local tradespeople to save a historic building in a way that honors the methods and ethos of the town founders. Come see this ambitious historic project in progress! \nExperience the Industry!
